Working on Campus

On campus, I work for our University’s food service company. I mainly work at 4 of the options: our casual late-night restaurant, smoothie shop,  grocery store, and cafe. I work full part-time hours a week at these locations, so I have to balance my time.

I learned to work under pressure, dealing with 60+ orders coming in at once in our online system. I work with a customer service mindset, greeting and accommodating customers when needed. I also learned  how to adapt to all of the tasks given to me and learn on with little instruction given.

Communication in restaurants and food service is important, I help facilitate conversations between students and full time employees and managers. Knowing when to ask questions is also equally as important. I balance both in my job working with the managers and full-time workers and having my peers as our customers.

I’ve worked at these various jobs since my sophomore spring semester. I chose this campus job over others because I love being able to work in front-facing positions and interact with customers, solve wrong orders and stock items. I’ve especially learned to not be shy when needing to call out orders over a microphone or by shouting.
