Bound Entertainment

Bound Entertainment is a film company from South Korea that centers Asian storytelling both behind and in front of the camera. At their LA branch, I interned during the summer of 2024.

It was the first time having a more structured internship experience where I needed to work a consistent schedule.  At the job, I drastically improved my script covering (a specific process of summarizing and rating a script), pitching, and designing skills.

One of my primary tasks was to evaluate scripts, story pitches, or outline documents. I proofread other documents for clarity and understanding. For scripts, I would give feedback on whether a script landed with an American audience or if a story could be transferable to a Korean audience. For example, because of Korea’s size, there can’t be any “road-trip” films like in the states.

My identity as an American who was passionate about stories and media from other cultures became very key in this role. I was able to be an ambassador and grew comfortable conveying my opinion. I learned how important my cross-cultural interest was to my place in media as a whole. I was able to build valuable communication and story evaluations skills.

In total, I was one of 4 interns. We were all tasked with a collaborative Newsletter on upcoming Intellectual Property that could fit under Bound as a company.  In doing the Newsletters, my designing skills transformed as we needed to convey through information visually as well.

This Newsletter also forced me to be concise about stories I loved in the limited space. I needed to convey in a short time why this story had potential and where the fit was. This has considerably improved my pitching ability.
