Producing Films

Through two film club on campus, Cardinal Pictures and Film Workshop, I produce short films. I enjoy managing all of the logistics of a script in order for it to become a film. I believe there is beauty in the way that a script becomes visual, even when constrained by the practicalities of the budgets, schedules, and weather.

Within production, I am at my best when I am problem solving. Working with underclassmen, or varying directors’ personalities may be daunting to some, but I embrace it. I’ve worked with a lot of first-time directors. Through this I’ve learned the value in patience and empathy in a working environment.

Production is hard and stressful. Smaller things like food and batteries to bigger things like actors schedules and location permits all need to be accounted for. This doesn’t include the time-consuming creative work needed a director does before production. That is why it’s essential to support directors through arising situations in production like injuries, no-shows, and faulty equipment.

In a way, I see myself as my director’s advocate. I take executing on their vision, within reason, extremely serious. In collaboration with the director, we solve problem on how to find swimmable lakes, costumes that make the actors comfortable, and enough background actors for a scene. Whatever it takes to allow the words to come to life.
