Cardinal Pictures is a student run organization that focuses on accessibility in filmmaking. In Cardinal Pictures, I’m an executive producer and events coordinator. Through my role as an events coordinator, we have created relationships film department and the Gordon Career Center through our events and producing procedures.
The club started in 2016, but paused during Covid. When I joined in spring 2023, the club was rebuilding itself and its relationships around that time. An event initiative of mine was to improve our relationship with the Film Department through stricter production procedures for ourselves and to coordinate joint events.
The joint event blossomed into the CFILM Homecoming Showcase. The Homecoming Showcase is a two part event, a voice acted table reading and film screening, of student work incepted from film department classes and clubs. We proposed an event that family, alumni, underclassmen could learn about the non-theory side of the department.
My role as the lead organizer for the event for the last two years included gathering submissions, curating the programs, and delegating tasks to peers in Cardinal Pictures. I also oversaw on the day preparations of managing the voice actors and leaflets.
We also continued our relationship with the Gordon Career Center which included the many alumni and internship panels. This year I was the lead organizer for the Internship panel, bringing together 7 current students to showcase their experience and answer any questions.
This event had a mixer section, so students could meet the panelist and meet other people interested in finding film internships. I’ve personally learned a lot from upperclassmen. Doing this event allows me to give back and excite underclassmen about the opportunities in the film industry.
